Cârja Lake, Parâng Mountains
Besides its amazing wealth of rivers, the Parâng Mountains also boast over 22 large lakes and over 20 smaller lakes and ponds, the most of them being glacial lakes. With its number of lakes, Parang Mountains ranks third place in the Romanian Carpathians.
With an easy accessibility, Carja lake from Jiet Basin is located in the Slivei bucket, in an alpine land of cliffs and scree.
Cârja Lake is situated at an altitude of 2,115 m with an area of about 0.50 ha and a maximum depth of 2.8 m and it can be easily conquered by any tourist with minimum equipment, especially from Groapa Seaca pass, where there is a chalet that can be reached by car on the road from Petrosani to Voineasa (Route 7A- DN7A).
Visiting the lake, you can climb Carja peak at an altitude of 2,405 m where you can have a beautiful view of the Jiu Valley.
It is good to know that because of the dynamic air convection, fog and clouds of relief often form, so it is recommended to hire a local guide for your full safety.
